“…something (as a symptom or condition) that makes particular treatment or procedure inadvisable.”

What are the Contraindications to Massage?

Massage is non-invasive, relaxing, and natural. It is, therefore, generally considered a safe treatment for most people. However, there are three types of contraindications:

Does a contraindication mean that I can’t receive massage treatment?

Not always. In fact, massage can be very therapeutic for many medical conditions. However, in the cases described here, it's best to get advice from your physician. As a massage therapist, I cannot, by law, diagnose any condition.
